The previous reciprocal arrangement for UK qualified physiotherapists is no longer recognised in Australia. You may no longer be automatically eligible for registration in all states of Australia. The changes require British qualified therapists to be screened for the eligibility to take an examination, estimated to cost $2000 and take several months. At present, there is still an opportunity for UK qualified physiotherapists to gain registration without sitting A.E.C.O.P. examination procedure. We may be able to offer advice on the best path for you to follow, to achieve the necessary registration.

For physiotheraoists traveling on working holiday visas, some states offered a limited or temporary registration category.

You are required to have current registration in the state in which you are seeking employment and to arrange such, you should contact the specific state registration boards, many of which require you to appear personally.

Each board will require you to complete an application form and return it with supporting documentation and payment. You will need,at minimum, certified copies of your qualification, a Certificate of Good Standing from the HPC and passport photographs. All requirements will be specified in the application pack. Costs will range from $30 – $250, approximately.

At present, once you have registration in one state of Australia, registration in subsequent states is usually simplified by mutual recognition.

New Zealand

New Zealand registration is assessed on a case by case basis and is likely to take several months. You should contact the NZ Board directly to request an application form for overseas qualified physiotherapists. If applying for NZ registration, please ensure that you submit the requested information.
